“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, to them that believe on his name: which were born , not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1:12-14)
“Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.” (John 3:3-6) Newness Of Life This deep uneasiness penetrated my soul Someone had entered where I chose to hide My need to be truly known screamed loudly The tears voiced my heart through my eyes My house of straw was easily torn down So I started reaching for sticks Not understanding the foundational truth I need the solidity of rock or bricks So I entered into my closet of prayer I needed the Holy and True I needed to be undone from within I needed the One who can do what I cannot do There He took the pen of my gift And he wrote as if on a presentational chart One side contained my “goodness” The other the depths of my sinful, dark heart Do you see all the things you count, The things you hold as being of worth? Do you see all the stain of wretchedness, Who you have been since your first birth? I do not see you as having two sides I see you as you really are Whether good or bad it matters not For you will always miss the mark You do not need a new coat of paint child You do not need endless rules You need a new heart and new life, To be raised from death and made new I am the way, the truth, and the life Without Me you are nothing at all I conquered your righteousness and wretchedness I am He who can lift you out of the Fall All who are weary and heavy laden Come to Me and find true rest My yoke is easy, my burden is light He who hath ears to hear come and be blessed The Truth alone shall make you free All you dead men who think you are alive True life is found in God alone Lay down your striving, come to Me and truly die Die that you might have life eternal Die so your soul can truly be free Die so your good and bad are done away with Die so you can find your life in Me Now Life will flow as a fountain freely Now Life will depict your true worth Now Life has redeemed and pardoned Now Life has swallowed death through second birth You who were tossed by the tempest Battered about by every wind and wave You are now held in the safe harbor of the Spirit You are in Christ Jesus through God who is mighty to save! We cannot be raised to newness of life if we have no idea that we are dead. I encourage you to watch and re-watch the video by Voddie Baucham above. Wonderful read as I head back up to dc this morning. It was great to see you, though hopefully it won’t be as brief next time. Take care!
